There are many reasons why people visit Havana, and witnessing the spectacular sunsets is certainly one of them. The pink light glistens over the vibrant city, making it feel even more alive. It’s a true sight to behold!
But where are the best spots to watch the sunset in Havana? Read on for our suggestions.
Rooftop hotels
Let’s start off with one of the more obvious places to watch the sunset, and this is at one of the many rooftop terraces in Havana. Hotels in Havana like Saratoga, Parque Central, and Ambos Mundos have rooftop terraces where you can enjoy a beautiful view and watch the sundown.
El Morro or El Christo de la Habana
After the famous Christ statue in Rio, Havana has the second biggest statue of Christ in Latin America. It is situated on the other side of the Bay. You can reach it by taking a ferry from Habana Vieja. Alternatively, you can walk from the fortresses Morro y Cabana. While you’re doing this, you’ll get an incredible view of the city and the sun setting. Also, at 9 pm, the Cañonazo, which is a traditional canon shoot, takes place.
El Penthouse de 17 y K
This is one of Havana’s hidden gems. Situated in an apartment building, this restaurant actually used to be a penthouse, so a lot of people don’t realize that they can actually take the elevator to the sixth floor and sit on the terrace. The drink and food taste amazing here. Plus, as it’s not as well-known as some of the other spots, you’ll probably be able to enjoy the sunset in a peaceful setting.
The Focsa
If you’ve never heard of the Focsa before, this is the highest building in the whole of Cuba! Standing 121 meters tall, it provides an incredible view across Havana, and naturally, this makes it an excellent place to watch the sunset. The green building, which is based in the Vedado neighborhood, is mainly made up of private apartments. However, on the top floor, there is a bar and restaurant. We recommend grabbing yourself a cocktail and watching the sunset from the bar.
Hotel Nacional de Cuba
Hotel Nacional de Cuba has been inscribed in the World Memory Register and is a National Monument. Situated in the center of Vedado, which is the heart of Havana, it has a privileged location. You can enjoy views of the city, the seawall, Havana Harbor, and the ocean, making it a truly magical spot.
The Malecon
Last but not least, we cannot talk about the best places to watch the sunset in Havana without mentioning the Malecon. There is a great atmosphere here, especially on the weekends. Lots of people will be watching the sunset while others will be swimming in the sea or fishing.
